The ascent of Island Peak, paired with the walk to Everest Base Camp, offers a remarkable adventure that is enriched by breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan peaks and the Khumbu glacier. Peak Climbing is a very rewarding mountaineering expedition in the Khumbu Region of Nepal.

Prior to undertaking the ascent, it is important to note that if you have already hiked to Everest Base Camp, which is situated at an altitude of 5357m, and have also reached Kala Patthar, which is at 5545m, starting from Jiri, Phaplu, or Lukla, you would have already acclimatized to the high altitude. The ascent to Island Peak follows the same path as the one leading to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

Perched a top Island Peak, with the majestic Khumbu range, including Nuptse and Lhotse, enveloping the surroundings, the climbing expedition in the Nepalese Himalayas was really exceptional.

Terms of Difficulty

Island Peak Climbing is categorised as ‘moderate’ in terms of difficulty. While a decent degree of physical condition is necessary, prior climbing experience is not required. The West Face of the mountain is extensively covered in glaciers and ascends from the Lhotse Glacier to a ridge that is rather easy to navigate. This location is ideal for inexperienced climbers to acquire the necessary expertise in scaling snowy and icy terrains at great heights.

We will go on the conventional Everest Base Camp route and start our journey by flying to Lukla. During our journey, we will hike to Everest Base Camp by passing via Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep. We will traverse the expansive Glacier Khumbu Ice and visit the serene Sherpa village located in the central part of the Everest Region.

The hike proceeds to Labuche, Gorakshep, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar before returning to Lobuche. Trek from Labuche, over the Khongmala Pass at an altitude of 5535m, and descend to Chhukung. Subsequently, we ascend the picturesque Imja Khola valley and go towards the Island Peak Base Camp.
